Ulcerative Colitis

UC pictureUlcerative colitis (UC) is a relapsing chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects the lining of the colon and rectum. Current therapies include 5-aminosalicylates, corticosteroids, immunosuppressants and biologic TNF╬▒ suppressors. Although new colon specific formulations have improved the medical management of UC, there is still 35-50% of the patient population who do not respond or tolerate the current induction or maintenance therapies. With 2-3 million of American and European people affected by this life-long disease, the market size is expected to growth to $6.6 billions by 2022.
